How to Choose a True Diffused Ceiling Light: Guide for Glare-Free Lighting
Many ceiling lights on the market claim to be “diffused,” but often just use a frosted cover: the light remains harsh and the LEDs are visible. Follow these three criteria to select a truly soft, eye-friendly light.
1. Check the structure: must be “light guide + diffuser”
True diffused ceiling light: The cover has a double-layer structure — inner light guide plate to evenly spread LED light, outer diffuser to further soften the light. Edges show subtle guide lines.
Fake diffuser: Only a single frosted layer without light guide. LEDs are visible and glare remains.
2. Test the light: three simple methods
Direct view: Look at the light. No visible LED points → truly diffused.
Phone test: Use camera. No bright spots or patterns → good diffusion.
Shadow test: Place a book underneath. No sharp shadows → uniform light coverage.
3. Check parameters: three essential indicators
UGR (glare index): Prefer UGR ≤ 19.
CRI (color rendering): Ra ≥ 90 for accurate color.
Color temperature & dimming: Bedroom: 3000–3500K dimmable, living room: 4000K dimmable. Avoid fixed cold or warm white.
Additional tips: often overlooked details
Material: Light guide: high-transparency PC, diffuser: frosted acrylic.
LED placement: even distribution, no dark spots.
Driver: DC flicker-free for eye comfort.
Follow these criteria to select a truly soft, glare-free ceiling light for a comfortable home.
