Many people assume that a light fixture will be comfortable as long as the LED chips are hidden. But a ceiling light, wall light or pendant with a diffuser can still feel harsh. You may not see the individual LED points, yet your eyes still feel uncomfortable.
Glare is not only caused by visible LED chips
Visible LED chips can create obvious glare, but they are not the only cause. A smooth glowing diffuser can also be too bright if the luminous surface is small, intense or positioned directly in your line of sight. The eye reacts to how much light is concentrated in an area.
1. The diffuser may become too bright
An opal cover, acrylic plate or translucent shade can hide the LED chips, but it becomes the new glowing surface. If that surface has high brightness, the light can still feel glaring. A good diffuser should not only hide the LEDs; it should also spread light softly.
